| If you focus on comparing yourself to other people, chances are there's someone who's better at any given exercise. This is true even for people who are the same age as the people they are comparing themselves to. Try to focus on how much better you are than you used to be... | |

It'll come...you'll be surprised how quickly it comes, too. As long as you are consistent, the gains are in leaps and bounds.
And I also VERY often feel quite old...most everyone at my box, with the exception of 1 man, is under 30. Most are about 23 - 27). I'm turning 47 next month. Yeah. That being said, I did hold the women's consecutive double under record for quite some time...unfortunately the injury set me back and some young whippersnapper has taken my place on the board. Soon enough she will be erased. Well, her name ;-) congrats on that record! I think the fact that we are out here doing this stuff at our age is enough. Sure we want to be faster, stronger. But when I think of the things I could not do 2+ years ago - pullups, strict pushups, doubleunders, put ANY weight above my head... We are immensely better off now than before. Injuries excluded of course.

| The thing is, 47 is not old. My mother is 80, that's old. It's interesting the way society kind of makes us feel that way. | |

we're all cougars! lol! I'm almost 42! I think we're all used to feeling older than all those other crossfit chicas, sometimes. I know I do!

| Good for you for working on form! I spent a good year in my garage doing CrossFit, only to find out that I was not squating deep enough. What I thought was a PR, turned out to be a poor squat, and when taught proper technique, my dumbers dropped significntly. After working the movement with proper technique, the numbers have come back. Bottom line, you are doing the right thing by getting the form right in the beginning, for lots of reasons, this is just one. | |

| well, 'Sonya who is a newbie' did exactly right working on form! and we don't time our strength workouts anyway. One...because you need to make damn sure form isn't being comprised. and two...because when you're working one rep maxes and stuff like that, you can need 3-5 minutes in between for recovery! So, you're right on! and once you got that form down, start adding 5-10# at a time and see where it gets you! good job! | |
